Verizon Offering Free Disney+ Subscription for One Year

Verizon today announced that it will be offering its customers a one-year Disney+ subscription for free. The move likely stems from Apple’s own promotional offer in which it is offering new iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV owners a free Apple TV+ subscription for a year.

Verizon is offering free Disney+ subscription to all its new and existing subscribers. It is also extending the offer to its Fios Home Internet and 5G Home Internet customers.

In tandem with the Disney+ November 12 launch, Verizon will become the exclusive wireless carrier to offer 12 months of Disney+ to all new and existing 4G LTE and 5G unlimited wireless customers. Verizon will also offer 12 months of Disney+ to its new Fios Home Internet and 5G Home Internet customers.

This roughly translates into a saving of 84$ or more for existing Verizon subscribers. And if you recently purchased a new iPhone and are eligible for a free Apple TV+ subscription, you are looking at a total savings of $144.

Apple TV+ is scheduled to launch on November 1st for $4.99/month while Disney+ will launch on November 12 for $6.99/month. Apple today released the third public betas of iOS 13 and iPadOS to its public beta testing group, 10 days after seeding the second public betas and a day after the fourth developer beta. The public beta gives non-developers a chance to test out iOS 13 ahead of its upcoming fall launch date. 

Beta testers who have signed up for Apple's beta testing program will receive the iOS 13beta update over-the-air after installing the proper certificate on an iOS device.

China Responds to Huawei Ban by Threatening to Blacklist U.S Firms

China has officially retaliated at the U.S by stated that it will establish a list of “unreliable ” entities that damage the interests of domestic companies. This move is expected to affect several foreign firms doing business in China and Apple is one of them.



As part of this rule, China will set up a process aimed at identifying foreign enterprises that break the rules, violate contracts and cut off supply for non-commercial reasons. Gao Feng, Ministry of Commerce spokesman said “Necessary measures will be taken” against those on the list.

The trade wars between the U.S and China has already escalated to an unprecedented level. The U.S Government has blocked Huawei from selling equipment in the U.S and buy parts from American suppliers. China has responded by targetting American tech companies like Google, Qualcomm, and Intel.

This weekend the U.S is all set to implement higher tariff duties on goods entering from China. Meanwhile, Beijing has already outlined its very own retaliation plan. The negotiations between the U.S and China went sour after Trump accused China of backing from a deal. Meanwhile, Chinese officials blamed it on Americans raising their demands.

Michelle Lam, Greater China economist at Societe Generale SA was quoted as follows, “Surely companies that have announced cutting supplies to Huawei, such as Panasonic and Toshiba, would be under threat.” He further added that “It could be very damaging to multinational companies.”

Apple Poaches Longtime Disney Executive for Apple TV+

Ahead of the launch of Apple TV+ later this year, Apple has poached Chiara Cipriani, a Disney veteran, as the director of video services in London. Cipriani worked at Disney for about a decade and has worked on DisneyLife and the upcoming Disney+ streaming service.

Apple has poached a number of employees from other entertainment companies in a bid to bolster its efforts on Apple TV+.

This fall will see the launch of two major streaming service: Apple TV+ and Disney+. While both companies have announced their respective streaming services, Disney is the only one to have unveiled the monthly subscription price of $7/month. In comparison, while Apple has provided quite a few details about Apple TV+, it is still not clear as to how much the service will cost monthly.

Apple is working on a number of original content for its streaming service involving some big names. This includes shows featuring Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Ocativa Spencer, Hailee Steinfeld, and more. However, when the service initially launches, it will feature content licensed by Apple from other players. Apple’s original content will make its way to the platform a few months down the line.

In comparison, Disney+ will launch with Disney’s massive library of content which is going to be a good enough reason for most people to subscribe to the service. The company has already started pulling its content from other streaming platforms as the launch of its streaming service nears. How to live stream on YouTube with OBS & Twitch

1. USING OBS

Step 1: Download the Twitch application from the Google Play Store.

Step 2: Download the OBS Software for your PC. It lets you record or stream gameplay from your Mac, PC, or Linux system.

Step 3: Also, ensure you have a verified YouTube account that’s linked with a valid mobile number.

Step 4: Verify, login and follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 5: Go to YouTube Studio dashboard > Other features > Live Streaming.

Step 6: A number of options need to be taken care of. Use a good name, fill in the description box, choose a suitable category, use appropriate privacy settings, and latency options.

Step 7: Fidget around and get to know the stream. Set up preferences. Check YouTube’s Live streaming checklist for some tips.

Step 8: Go to Basic Tab > Encoder Setup and note down your Stream name/key”. Use the “Reveal” button to reveal it. Don’t reveal it, or someone else might pose as you and stream.

Step 10: Choose your frame rates, video resolution, and bit-rate in Videos and Output options.

Step 13: The next option is tricky. You’ll have to select a default audio option. Select Desktop audio device settings to enable in-game or desktop audio, which can be heard by the viewers. Select your microphone in the Mix/Auxillary Audio Device if you want the viewers to hear you.

Step 14: Click Apply > OK > Exit.

Step 15: If you want to stream a video from an external camera, tap on the Sources > + button > Video Capture Device. Select the camera from the list and choose the FPS and its quality. Click OK when done.

Step 16: If you have a Game Footage to stream, tap on Game Capture. Choose the FPS and its quality. Click OK when done.
2. USING TWITCH

As we’ve said, Twitch doesn’t natively support direct streaming, so we’ll be using USB debugging and OBS method here as well. Use this option only if you want to stream through your smartphone.

Step 1: Ensure Twitch is already installed on your smartphone.

Step 2: Head on to Settings > About Phone. Search for Build Number. Tap on it 7 times till you see a pop-up saying you’ve unlocked the developer options.

Step 3: Open Developer Options and toggle on USB Debugging.

Kuo: 2020 iPhone to Use 5G Modem from Samsung and Qualcomm

Post the settlement between Apple and Qualcomm, Ming-Chi Kuo now believes that Apple will be launching a 5G iPhone in 2020. What’s interesting is that apart from Qualcomm, Apple will also be sourcing 5G modem from Samsung.

By dual sourcing 5G modem from Qualcomm and Samsung, Apple will be able to lower its supply-chain risks and gain better bargaining power.

It is surprising to see Apple source 5G modem from Samsung for its 2020 iPhones. Apple already relies heavily on Samsung for its NAND chips and OLED display requirements and with the addition of the 5G modem, Apple will be sourcing a number of key iPhone components from one of its major competitor in the smartphone market.

Up until last week, Apple was widely believed to be relying on a 5G modem from Intel for its 2020 iPhone. However, Intel engineers were facing development issueswhich cast doubts on whether Apple would indeed manage to release a 5G iPhone in 2020 or not. However, since Qualcomm and Apple ended their patent feud out of court last week and signed a six-year chip agreement, Kuo now believes Apple will make use of Qualcomm’s 5G modem in its 2020 iPhone.

The launch of 5G iPhones will lead to more consumers upgrading to a new iPhone in 2020 than normal. Due to this, Kuo expects Apple to ship anywhere around 195-200 million iPhones in 2020 compared to 188-192 million iPhones in 2019. Out of this, Apple will ship around 70-75 million 2020 iPhones that will launch towards the end of Q3. As for the 2019 iPhone 11, Kuo expects Apple to ship around 65-70 million units.

It is not surprising that post its settlement, Apple intends on using Qualcomm’s 5G modem inside its 2020 iPhone. Qualcomm is the undisputed leader in the smartphone modem wireless market and it has already announced its second-gen 5G mmWave modem while the likes of Huawei and Samsung have just gotten around to releasing their first 5G modem.

Apple is working on its own 5G modem as well but that is likely still a few years away from seeing the light of the day. Until then, Apple is going to rely on Qualcomm and Samsung for its 5G needs.

Apple is Shutting Down Texture Following the Launch of Apple News+

Apple acquired the “Netflix for magazines” service, Texture, back in March of 2018. It took just under a month for the company to turn things around and announce a brand new in-house service following that acquisition.

Texture continued to serve its customers following the Apple acquisition, except for Windows users. Apple shut down Texture for Windows (amid a myriad of bad reviews for the app) in June of last year, saying it wanted to “keep things working smoothly” outside of the Windows ecosystem. Plus, it probably helped Apple build News+, the magazine and news service based on Texture the company announced earlier this month.

Now, Texture has officially announced that it will be shutting down its service this year. Specifically, May 28, 2019, will be the final day to access the service. It will now be guiding folks towards Apple News+.

The bad news: Texture, while not praised on Windows, has found a customer base on Android. With the subscription service shutting down, it leaves those customers out in the cold, as Apple News+ is not available on Android at this point.
Our Take

This was inevitable, but it’s still sad to see Android users losing the service altogether. Keeping Texture around probably wasn’t feasible, however. Maybe we’ll see Apple launch News+ for Android at some point in the near future. That would make some headlines for WWDC.
