Apple is Shutting Down Texture Following the Launch of Apple News+

Apple acquired the “Netflix for magazines” service, Texture, back in March of 2018. It took just under a month for the company to turn things around and announce a brand new in-house service following that acquisition.

Texture continued to serve its customers following the Apple acquisition, except for Windows users. Apple shut down Texture for Windows (amid a myriad of bad reviews for the app) in June of last year, saying it wanted to “keep things working smoothly” outside of the Windows ecosystem. Plus, it probably helped Apple build News+, the magazine and news service based on Texture the company announced earlier this month.

Now, Texture has officially announced that it will be shutting down its service this year. Specifically, May 28, 2019, will be the final day to access the service. It will now be guiding folks towards Apple News+.

The bad news: Texture, while not praised on Windows, has found a customer base on Android. With the subscription service shutting down, it leaves those customers out in the cold, as Apple News+ is not available on Android at this point.
Our Take

This was inevitable, but it’s still sad to see Android users losing the service altogether. Keeping Texture around probably wasn’t feasible, however. Maybe we’ll see Apple launch News+ for Android at some point in the near future. That would make some headlines for WWDC.
We Want To Hear From You

Did you ever use Texture? Are you already trying out Apple News+?

Apple Seeds First Public Beta of iOS 12.3 With New TV App

Apple today seeded the first beta of an upcoming iOS 12.3 update to its public beta testing group, one day after seeding the beta to developers and a few days after the launch of iOS 12.2, an update that brought Apple News+, among other features.

Beta testers who have joined Apple's beta testing program will receive the iOS 12.3 beta update over-the-air after installing the proper certificate on an iOS device. The update will become available right around 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time or 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Those who want to download the new beta can do so after signing up for the beta program, which gives access to iOS, macOS, and tvOS betas.

iOS 12.3 brings the new TV app that Apple first introduced at its March 25 event. The TV app is an updated version of the original TV app, offering up TV shows, movies, sports, news, and more all in one easy-to-access spot.

The updated TV app has improved content recommendations available through a new "For You" section in the app, which will suggest shows and movies you'll like based on your past watched history.

There's also a new feature called Channels. Channels are subscription services that you can sign up for and watch in the TV app without having to open up another app. Some of the new Channels include CBS All Access, Starz, Showtime, HBO, Nickelodeon, Mubi, The History Channel Vault, and Comedy Central Now. During the beta, users can subscribe to Showtime, Starz, Smithsonian, and Tastemade.

In the future, the TV app will also house Apple TV+, Apple's upcoming streaming service for its original TV shows and movies. Also Read:jihosoft Free iPhone Data Recovery

AirPower Pictured on Retail Box for AirPods Wireless Charging Case

AirPower Pictured on Retail Box for AirPods Wireless Charging Case

AirPower appears to be closer to launch than ever with Apple showing a diagram on the retail box of the newly launched AirPods Wireless Charging Case. The photo was sent to MacRumors this morning and appears shows Apple's long-delayed wireless charging mat referenced on the packaging of the new Wireless Charging Case for AirPods, which Apple announced last week. The image has since been verified with another report.

The back of the box clearly shows the distinct pill-shaped outline of the AirPower charging mat externally powered by what appears to be a USB-C or Lightning cable, indicating that the yet-to-be-released device can be used to charge AirPods using the wireless-compatible charging case.

Apple launched its new second-generation AirPods on Wednesday, and customers who ordered them on the same day are expecting deliveries between March 26-27. The new AirPods are available with a wired charging case for $159 or with a Wireless Charging Case for $199. Apple is also selling the Wireless Charging Case separately for $79, so that existing owners of first-generation AirPods can charge their earbuds wirelessly using Qi-compatible charging mats. The new AirPods will be available at Apple Stores and select resellers later this week.

Last week, MacRumors uncovered what appears to be a new Apple product image of the AirPower with an iPhone XS and the new AirPods with Wireless Charging Case on it. MacRumors has also uncovered evidence to suggest that Apple has secured the rights to the AirPower trademark in the United States.

Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple approved production of the AirPower earlier this year, and reputable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said the AirPower will be released within the first half of 2019. According to Taiwanese publication DigiTimes, Apple plans to release its long-awaited wireless charging mat AirPower in "late March."

AirPower is designed to charge multiple Apple devices at once, including the iPhone 8 and newer, Apple Watch Series 3 and newer, and AirPods when they are placed in the new optional wireless charging case. Also Read:How to Fix Windows was Unable to Format SD Card/USB Drive
